World Day for Health and Safety at Work: EGFCO’s Commitment to Employee Wellbeing

Every year on April 28th, the world observes Safety and Health at Work Day. This day highlights the importance of creating a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. At EGFCO, we are committed to ensuring that our employees work in an environment that is not only productive but safe as well. We have implemented various measures to ensure the well-being of our employees and to create a culture of safety within our organization.

To us, safety and health at work is not just a requirement, but a responsibility that we take very seriously. We asked our Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) Officer, Marwa El Mahdy, what motivates her to ensure the health and safety of our employees every day. She said, “I find great passion in my job because it allows me to protect the people who make our company great. It’s my responsibility to ensure that everyone goes home safe and healthy at the end of the day, and that’s something I take very seriously.”

Marwa continues, “We have incorporated the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into our safety and health policies, particularly SDG goal number three, which aims to promote good health and well-being for all. We recognize that a healthy workforce is essential for the success of our organization, and we prioritize the physical and mental health of our employees.”

“We demonstrate our determination to achieve these goals by committing to zero-accident associated with manufacturing and supplying of plastic piping systems for the distribution and transmission of water, wastewater, and gas. We are also committed to take necessary actions to eliminate OH&S hazards and reduce OH&S risks or environmental impacts of our operations, to remain relevant and appropriate to the nature and scale of our operations.

Lastly, we practice the Health, Safety and Environmental policy through health, safety and environmental management systems and relevant business plans that establish Health, Safety and Environmental objectives and targets across our organization.”

At EGFCO we believe that effective HSE practices are critical for the success of any organization. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), companies with effective safety and health programs can reduce their injury and illness costs by 20-40%. By prioritizing safety and health at work, companies can improve employee morale, reduce costs, and create a culture of safety that benefits everyone.

As a responsible member of the community, we recognize the importance of promoting safety and health beyond our organization. Through various partnerships and collaborations, we have extended our safety and health policies to our suppliers, customers, and the wider community.

Marwa concludes, “We recognize the importance of ensuring that every workplace is safe and healthy. At EGFCO, we take this responsibility seriously, and we will continue to prioritize the well-being of our employees and the wider community.”
